H-2B Winter Program


ABOUT THE PROGRAM

 
      US Winter Training Program H2B is the winter equivalent of the increasingly popular H2B work and travel programme. Youth Exchange Center with its co-operators and American employee offer the participant to spend the wintertime in the most popular ski-resorts of the USA. This programme is for those who want to spend the wintertime both skiing and working. Each year, the US Government allows American ski resorts to employ people from all over the world

WORK

American ski resort, in cooperation with other partners, intend to employ polish staff to work as hotel staff, ski instructor, snowboard instructor or in the skiing service. This is a great opportunity for those who want to spend winter time in the international environment and for those who wants to combine fun with earning money.

The most popular positions are:
Bartenders, Building Maintenance, Food Service, General Office, Lift Operations, Outside Maintenance, Rental Technician, Gift Shop, Ski/Snowboard Instructor, Snowmaker.

      It is up to the employer and you what days you are going to work at and for how many hours. Participants are treated in the same way as their American friends. Ski resorts workers usually have free ski-passes and other discounts. Due to the difficulties with traveling around the ski resorts, employer usually provides the accommodation and the rent is directly deducted from salary. Sometimes the accommodation and salary may be free.

The most popular positions are:

LIFT OPERATOR - Depending on the day, the job you're doing and chair you're assigned to it may be hard work, or you may spend your day fighting the temptation to nap. Ski areas can be very cold and most days you will find yourself outside in the elements all day. However, if you eat and dress properly you should be comfortable most of the time. You will be in close contact with the guests and good customer service and speaking skills are a must. Lift Operators are allowed to ski or snowboard on their breaks and, of course, on their days off. The number of hours you work will vary depending on the weather, however you should expect to work 40 hours or more most weeks. Lift Operations is not easy work. Mid-week you will need to be at work by 07:30 and you may work until 17:00. Weekends and holiday weeks you need to be at work by 06:30.

SKI INSTRUCTOR - Depending on your skiing ability you could work as an Adult Pro (Instructor/Coach) or a Children's Pro. Ski areas offer group clinics (lessons) for children four years old and up and private clinics are available for three year olds. The pay rate depends on your qualifications, but most people start at close to $7.50 an hour and depending on the internal training you complete that rate could increase during the season. However, most ski pros only get paid while they are teaching. These positions are available to anyone who is able to ski and has a level 1 (PSIA or equivalent) certification. These jobs should provide 35 - 40hrs of work per week and pay between $7.00 - $7.50 per hour.

FOOD SERVICE - This activity requires numerous staff. Whether preparing food, basics such as fries, hamburgers, sandwiches etc., or serving food, you will be working hard and at full speed from start to finish. If you speak good English, you may work at the cash register. There are numerous opportunities in this field and promotion is swift.
